Taxes

It’s that time of year again when Uncle Sugar sticks a gun in our ribs and steals our money. At least that’s the way it feels to me and to many others.

Our tax-man will be dropping by later this morning to gather our documentation and see how much tribute we’ll have to give Washington, Topeka and Jeff City. Usually, we pay some to Kansas and get credit for that in Missouri.

After the elections last fall, the ‘Pubs were very vocal what they were going to do about taxes. They were going to send a repeal of Obamacare every week until it was signed or Obama was out of office.

We’re twelve weeks into the “new” Congress and that repeal hasn’t happened yet as far as I know. Now the ‘pubs are backing off defunding that piece of socialist trash. Seems there’s an automatic funding portion included in the bill. If you can’t defund the entire thing, repeal the automatic funding portion first! This isn’t rocket science here, ‘pubs!

Now we’re into the CFR farce. CFR means “Continuing Funding Resolution.” In other words, instead of passing a budget bill, we’ll just continue spending, spending, spending, spending, as before. Yeah, they cut a measly $5-6Bn which is nothing when the DAILY deficit is $72Bn.

But…but, we’ll shutdown the government if we don’t pass the CFR!

Good!

At least there’ll be something to show the ‘pubs really mean to cut spending. This last Sunday,a girl come forward at church to ask us to pray for her job. She’s a temporary IRS employee. They’ve been told, she says, that if the CFR is not passed they won’t be paid. They’ll still be expected to come to work. They just won’t be paid until a bill—or something, is passed.

I prayed that she’ll continue to be employed…not necessarily at the IRS because I can not in good conscience pray for passage of this federal funding monster. If pressure is needed to get spending cut and get this country moving again, shut down the government. Vital services like the military (and Social Security checks) will continue unabated.

I see a lot of ‘pubs doing a lot of talking and pontificating. I see little action. Some folks are saying if the ‘pubs don’t get moving, drastic action may be taken. (I don’t advocate this type of action. Even the worst RINO is better than the most conservative democrat.)

Well so much for my Rant du Jour. Ya’ll have a happy Tax Day now.

Greedy Unions Lost Jobs for Members

Unionism: A parasitical theory that forces labor into unsustainable situations and unemployment.

I have, at one time, belonged to a union, the Teamsters specifically. I didn’t have a choice. It was in Illinois. Now, those same state labor laws are costing 800 jobs around East Alton, IL. I first saw this on Robb Allen’s blog.

Unions have become blood-sucking parasites on American business. They ignore the needs of their members in order to maintain personal power and graft. They’re also incompetent considering the state of union controlled pension and health plans.

Here is a link to a story about a union local of the UAW who decided to collectively unemploy themselves in Indianapolis rather than accept a pay-cut that would allow their plant to stay in business. They refused, the plant will now be closed. Instead of have a continuing, although smaller, income, they will have none. Check that, now they’ll be living off your tax dollars drawing unemployment.

That situation has reoccurred in Illinois. The Olin company, an ammunition manufacturing concern has, strike that, had a plant in East Alton, IL. They asked their union for some concessions to allow the plant to stay in operation. The union refused. Now Olin is making plans to close the plant and will expand operations in another plant in Mississippi. Illinois’ loss is Mississippi’s gain.

The Olin Corp. announced Wednesday that it will suspend production of centerfire ammunition at its plant in East Alton and re-locate the manufacturing operation to Oxford, Miss.
The move comes less than 24 hours after members of the union representing over Olin 800 workers rejected concessions that would have allowed them to keep their jobs.

I have to wonder about the intelligence of anyone who willingly joins a union. My father was a life-long member of the UMWA (United Mine Workers of America.) Before he died, he told me he was glad I didn’t need to belong to a union. He said, “Unions are the refuge of the lazy and the incompetent led by liars, crooks and thieves.

How right he was.

Cartoon of the Day: Lisa Benson

How true.

I rarely post more than once a day. I just couldn’t pass this one by.

Taxes are no more than governmental theft over the barrel of a gun. Whether we agree or not, without coercion, very few would pay taxes. I sometimes reflect whether we’d be better off by subscribing to services usually provided by government than paying taxes. In some states and the democrat congress, we get both—taxes and fees. The fees are no more than taxes by another name.

That’s why, whenever I hear about the so-called “Fair” tax, a consumption or universal sales tax to replace the existing Income Tax, I get REAL nervous. In my experience, we’d not replace the income tax with a sales tax. The Tax ‘n Spend crowd would never allow the Income Tax to be repealed. My fear is that we’d get BOTH! I much prefer a flat tax—no more than 15%. No graduated tax rates. No progressive tax structure, just a flat tax. How much did you make? Pay 15% of that. No deductions, no exemptions It make the withholding tax much easier too. Tax audits would be streamlined as well to nothing more than a determination of actual earnings, not trudging through a pile of “exemptions.”
